What the book "The Kidnapped Flight" is about?

An investigation that reveals the illegal trafficking of nocturnal birds of prey all over the world. Illegal trade in animals affects every continent and has become a highly topical issue, being linked to the spread of which has disrupted the lives of millions of people and is causing profound damage to the world economy.

The journey begins right from a market in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where it is thought that the leap of species at the base of the COVID-19 pandemic took place, to then reach Japan, Thailand, India, Africa and even South America. Without going into macabre details, the volume deals with the persecutions and ill-treatment that owls and other species are forced to suffer due to absurd beliefs, traditions and propitiatory rites.

To explain the origin of the wildlife market and the cultural basis of each civilization that influenced its birth and diffusion, the research has also become historical, a dive into the glorious past of humanity: from the Egyptians to the Greeks, from the Romans up to medieval times, to discover that even today the desire to own a wild animal is not at all dormant. Although not supported by religious beliefs or millenary customs, this desire is also revealed in Western man: the innocent wizard Harry Potter transforms the owl into a pet and foments its illegal trafficking in the so-called "civilized" world. Modern communication technologies, such as the internet, represent a new means to perpetrate the illegal market and increase the risk of extinction for many different species. The trade in products of animal origin (ivory, bile, scales, etc.) and in the animals themselves generates a criminal turnover comparable to that of drugs, in addition to the risk associated with zoonoses and the loss of biodiversity.
